Ordenadores de bajo coste a cambio de tecnología y petróleo, este es parte del acuerdo bilateral (3 mil millones de dólares en total) que firmaron Portugal y Venezuela, y que ahora Chávez pone en marcha: aprovechando su estancia en Lisboa ha anunciado ayer sábado el encargo de un millón de portátiles Classmate PC.
Classmate es la apuesta de Intel en el mercado inaugurado por Negroponte con su OLPC: portátiles de bajísimo coste destinados a población escolar del Tercer Mundo. Hace tres meses Intel anunció que fabricaría 500.000 Classmates en Portugal, pero el encargo de Chávez desborda con mucho estas cifras.
El miniportátil de Intel (denominado Magalhaes en el mercado portugués) es robusto, tiene conexión inalámbrica a Internet, pantalla de 7 “, 256 Mb RAM y 2 Gb de almacenamiento
Paradojas: el Gobierno socialista de Chávez opta por un portátil de bajo coste que es un producto de Intel netamente comercial y que integra un sistema propietario como es Windows XP, en vez del XO OLPC, auspiciado por la ONU y diseñado inicialmente para correr sobre Linux

Si que es paradojico, sobre todo que Chavez apuesta por el SL. Recuerdo los miles de cubanos informaticos que fueron alla a instalar los cibercafes con debian. Quizas nos las ocmpra con windows…

No hay paradoja, es entendible, Chavez busca aliados en el exterior en vez de tratados beneficiosos para la poblacion, pagando con lo que hay en el bolsillo petrolero. Por eso no escogió las OLPC, porque es mejor para el quedar bien con Portugal que con la ONU donde no lo ven con buenos ojos despues de sus bochornosos actos
